MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- After having last weekend off, the Millsaps College baseball team jumped back in to Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Saturday by playing a doubleheader at Rhodes to open up a weekend series.
There was plenty of offense early in the first game, but unfortunately the Lynx scored the last 11 runs of the game unanswered to pick up the 16-6 win.
In the second game, Rhodes led 3-0 until the Millsaps offense came alive with 4 runs in the top of the 7th to score a 4-3 win.
Game 1
After a scoreless 1st inning, the Rhodes offense opened things up with a five-run bottom of the 2nd to take an early lead.
It did not take long for Millsaps to respond however.
William Warner and
Jimmy Johnstone led off the top of the 3rd inning with back-to-back singles, and
Brennan Ducote followed that up with a three-run home run to make it 5-3. A
Jackson Hailey RBI groundout and a
Keaton Page RBI single tied things up at 5-5. As the Majors batted around in the inning, Johnstone came through with his second base hit of the inning, this time scoring
Will Neely to give Millsaps the 6-5 lead.
Unfortunately, it was all Rhodes the rest of the way. The Lynx answered back with five runs in their half of the 3rd, and put up another five-spot in the bottom of the 4th.
A RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning gave Rhodes the walk-off run-rule win by a score of 16-6.
