BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—When you're facing a hot pitcher, and a hot team for that matter, sometimes there's just nothing you can do.
That's exactly what happened to Millsaps on Saturday as they traveled to Birmingham to take on the 18
th ranked Panthers. BSC came into Saturday's doubleheader having won 15 straight. They made it 17 on Saturday, taking down Millsaps 10-1 and 1-0.
How It Happened
Millsaps ran into the hot pitcher on Saturday, BSC's Haley Crumpton. Crumpton came into Saturday's game with a 1.99 ERA and tied for the conference lead with 11 wins. She was every bit as good as advertised as she was perfect against the Majors, sitting down 15 straight batters with 10 strikeouts en route to a game one 10-0 win. Millsaps starter
Shauna Blady was handed the loss after giving up six earned runs in 2.1 innings.
Game two was more of a pitcher's duel, with
Amber Funderburk squaring off with BSC's Jessica Perley. This time the Majors were able to get three hits against the Panthers starter, but still weren't able to push any runs across. A second inning solo homerun was all the offense BSC needed and all Funderburk would surrender as she battled to keep the Majors in the game. She picked up the loss despite giving up just the one run on two hits. She also issued five walks.
Karlie Galloway,
Jordan Lipari and
Ty Bergeron each had a hit for Millsaps.
What's Next
The Majors will wrap up their 2019 slate on Sunday with a final game against BSC. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
