Football Falls on the Road at #10 Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- On Saturday, the Millsaps College football team went on the road for the first time in Southern Athletic Association play.

The Majors traveled to Georgia for a matchup with No. 10 Berry College.

The host Vikings led 3-0 at the halftime break, and used a pair of big plays in the 3rd quarter to capture the momentum in the 31-14 win.

The first loss of the season drops the Majors to 3-1 overall on the year. They are now 1-1 in league play. The win improves Berry's record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 inside the SAA.

How It Happened
The first half was highlighted by the defenses and a field position battle.

The Majors defense played outstanding, limiting the Vikings to just 69 yards in the first 30 minutes. The lone field goal came as the result of a short field after a Millsaps muffed punt.

Berry started off the second half with a 69-yard touchdown pass on their first play from scrimmage. On the ensuing Millsaps drive the Vikings intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown to make it 17-7 with 13:09 remaining in the 3rd quarter.

The Majors answered back late in the quarter when Amryn Jeffrey capped off a five-play drive with a 50-yard touchdown pass to Moise Tezzo. Hunter Sellen's PAT attempt was good to make it 17-7 with 3:37 left in the 3rd.

Unfortunately the Vikings responded with 14 straight points of their own to move ahead 31-7.

Millsaps was able to find the endzone again late in the 4th quarter, this time on a pass from Jeffrey to John Bourgeois, but the big third quarter by the Vikings proved to be the difference in the game as Berry held on for the 31-14 win.

Notables
Austin Russell went over the 100-yard threshold in receiving again. His five receptions for 102 yards led the Majors.

Defensively, Mickale Massey led the way with 12 total tackles. He had a pair of tackles for loss. Itt was also another big day for Reid Evans. The defending SAA Player of the Week added 11 tackles for Millsaps.

What's Next?
The Majors will be back at home in week five for a SAA contest against Centre College. Saturday afternoon's kickoff from Harper Davis Field is set for 1:00 p.m.
