MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Millsaps College women's basketball team opened this weekend of Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play on Friday night with a trip to Rhodes College.
Despite a huge advantage underneath the basket, the Majors were unable to come away with the win as Rhodes moved to 3-1 in the league with a 67-58 victory.
The loss drops Millsaps to 7-8 overall and 1-3 in SAA play.
How It Happened
The Majors outshot the Lynx by nearly 20% in the opening quarter, but four of the five made field goals for Rhodes were three-pointers. That advantage helped the Lynx grab an early 18-13 lead.
They built on that advantage by a couple of points in the second quarter to make it a 32-25 game at halftime.
The two teams literally traded baskets back and forth in an evenly matched second half, but the Lynx ability to shoot the ball from outside made the difference down the stretch.
On the night, 12 of their 22 made field goals were three-pointers, and they were able to hold off every Millsaps comeback attempt to secure the 67-58 win.
