Strong Fourth Quarter Lifts Women's Basketball over Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. -- The Millsaps College women's basketball team picked up their second Southern Athletic Association (SAA) win on Sunday afternoon after a strong fourth quarter propelled the Majors past Hendrix College.

The game was tied 53-53 with 1:20 remaining, but Millsaps scored nine of the last ten points to secure the 62-54 win.

The victory pushes the Majors to 8-8 overall and 2-3 in the SAA.

How It Happened
Millsaps dominated the opening quarter as their defense held the Warriors to just 7 points while the offense scored 16.

Unfortunately, the second quarter was the exact opposite. This time the Majors were outscored 17-9 to cut their lead down to 25-24 at halftime.

Devan Caldwell opened up the third quarter by converting on a three-point play, and the offense regained their rhythm. The Warriors seemingly matched every basket however, and with just ten minutes play Millsaps found themselves clinging to a 40-38 advantage.

Hendrix made a three-pointer at the start of the fourth quarter, and actually led 49-46 with just over seven minutes to play.

The Majors fought back and with just 1:20 left to play the game was tied at 53-53.

Anna Wilson broke the tie with a pair of free throws, and Elecia Lartigue scored the next 4 points to make it a 6-0 Millsaps run.

The Warriors cut it to 59-54 with a free throw, but they never scored again as the Majors closed out the game on the free throw line to secure the 62-54 win.

Notables
Lartigue led Millsaps with a career-high 26 points. She finished 8-12 from the field, including 2-2 from three-point territory.

Dia Fortenberry added 17 points, and pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds.
