ATLANTA, Ga. -- On Friday night, the Millsaps College women's basketball team traveled to Georgia for a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) matchup with the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University.
The Petrels are ranked as the No. 23 team in all of NCAA Division III in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll.
Oglethorpe scored the 66-40 win, but junior forward
Dia Fortenberry notched her 1,000 career point in the contest.
The loss drops the Majors to 8-9 overall and 2-4 in SAA play. Oglethorpe improves to 16-1 overall and 6-0 in the league.
How It Happened
A bucket by Fortenberry and a three-pointer from
Anna Wilson had Millsaps out to an early 5-2 lead. Unfortunately Oglethorpe battled back, and ended the 1st quarter with a pair of free throws to move ahead 17-11.
In a low scoring 2nd quarter, the Stormy Petrels outscored the Majors to push their advantage to 28-20 at halftime.
Millsaps refused to go away in the 3rd quarter, getting six points from
Elecia Lartigue, and another Wilson three-pointer to keep pace with Oglethorpe.
Unfortunately, the hosts pulled away down the stretch in the final period to secure the 66-40 win.
