JACKSON, Miss. -- On Sunday afternoon the Millsaps College women's basketball team staged a late comeback attempt, but ultimately fell short in a 53-46 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) loss to Centre College.
The Majors trailed by eighteen points at halftime, but tripled the Colonels in the third quarter to get back into the game.
Unfortunately Centre was able to hold on down the stretch to escape the Hangar Dome with the win.
How It Happened
The Colonels scored 18 of their 30 first half points from behind the three-point line, and limited the Majors to just 3 made field goal attempts to carry a 30-12 advantage to halftime.
The third quarter was all Millsaps however.
On the defensive end the Majors held Centre to 16.7% shooting from the field, and the offense poured in 18 points to make cut the deficit down to 35-30. Millsaps was 6-12 from the field in the quarter, including three point baskets from
Elecia Lartigue and
Megan Donaldson.
The Majors quickly got to within a possession when Donaldson opened up the fourth quarter with another triple, but each time Millsaps looked to tie things up or take a lead Centre had an answer.
In the end the Colonels were able to close out the 53-46 win from the free throw line.
Notables
Taelor Manning led Millsaps with 17 points. She was 7-10 from the charity stripe.
Dia Fortenberry finished with 11 and Donaldson added 10 points to close out the double-digit scorers for the Majors.
