2013 Millsaps College World Series Baseball Squad Honored by SAA

Majors Named One of the League’s Greatest Teams in SAA 10-Year Anniversary Celebration

ATLANTA – Celebrating 10 years of the Southern Athletic Association during the 2021-22 seasons, the conference is looking back at the best moments, teams and performances in league history.

On Friday, the 2013 Millsaps baseball team, which advanced to the 2013 Division III College World Series, was named as one of the greatest teams in the SAA's decade of existence.

The Majors became the first program in the conference to reach the College World Series. Millsaps finished with a record of 38-14 and ended the season ranked No. 8 in the D3baseball.com poll.

Head coach Jim Page was named South Region Coach of the Year and Wes Perkins was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings First Team.

Perkins also led a quartet of Majors on the D3baseball.com All-America Team. He earned a spot on the First Team, while Keith Shumaker (Second Team), Stephen Gates (Third Team) and Kevin Wall (Honorable Mention) were recognized for their contributions.

Additionally, Shumaker garnered SAA Player of the Year and D3baseball.com South Region Player of the Year.

2013 Millsaps Baseball Regional Champ Celebration

The Majors would claim the SAA regular season title as well as the postseason championship despite dropping the second game in the double-elimination format. Millsaps would rattle off five consecutive wins at Twenty Field facing elimination to advance to the South Regional.

In the six-team double-elimination tournament, the Majors again fell in the second game, but stormed back with three straight wins. Millsaps finished its regional with a 4-1 mark and bested Salisbury in a 7-6 thriller to advance to Appleton, Wis.

Millsaps then dropped a heartbreaker, 2-1 in 10 innings to Southern Maine in the Division III College World Series opener. The Majors were eliminated by Ithaca, 5-2 the following day, but the 2013 Millsaps baseball season will be remembered for years to come.
