LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A season-high four forced turnovers and two interceptions were not enough for the Millsaps football team as the Majors fell to Hendrix, 34-7 on Saturday night. Freshman wideout
Xavion Butler marked career highs of five catches for 90 yards at Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium.
Sophomore defensive end
Adrian Turner tallied a team- and career-high nine tackles defensively.
Cade Broussard, a senior safety, did everything on the field for the Majors. He posted seven tackles, 1.5 TFLs, one quarterback hurry and one forced fumble.
Zackary Brownlee, a freshman defensive lineman, finished with three tackles. He also secured two TFLs, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Chase Heard,
Ryan Taix and
Christian Hawkins all also recovered turnovers for Millsaps (2-7, 2-4 SAA).
Freshman kicker
Ethan Klapatch averaged 38.4 yards on 11 punts with four of his kicks landing inside the 20 and two traveling over 50 yards.
Hendrix (2-7, 1-5 SAA) outgained Millsaps in total yards (507-204).
The Warriors struck first with a touchdown drive that lasted over five minutes to kick off the game, but a blocked PAT resulted in a 6-0 advantage.
Following a three-and-out by Millsaps, Hendrix utilized good field position to reach the red zone. Looking primed to score, a Broussard strip sack recovered by Heard would interrupt the Warriors' drive.
Looking to capitalize on the turnover, freshman quarterback
Brody Davis found Butler on a third-and-14. Davis would give Millsaps a 7-6 lead five plays later on a 10-yard touchdown scamper up the middle with just over four minutes remaining in the first.
Early in the second quarter, Hendrix would reclaim a 12-7 lead with a 61-yard inside zone touchdown run. The extra point was missed.
After millsaps was forced to punt on the following possession, the Warriors would return the kick for 77 yards and a touchdown to take a 19-7 lead with 9:47 remaining in the second quarter.
Hendrix, with momentum on their side, forced a three-and-out and gained possession on the Majors' 48-yard line. After driving to the Majors' two-yard line, Millsaps would hold strong on the goal line to keep the score at 19-7 with five minutes remaining in the first half.
With the Warriors threatening to score again right before halftime, Taix would corral his second interception of the season to keep the score at bay.
After forcing a three-and-out on the Majors' opening possession of the third quarter, Hendrix would once again fail to capitalize on Millsaps' side of the field with another interception picked off by Hawkins.
After both teams were forced to punt, Hendrix would claim their first turnover of the game from a muffed punt. With their offense starting immediately in the red zone at the Majors' 20-yard line, the Warriors would once again find the end zone to go along with a successful two-point conversion to claim a 27-7 advantage with 5:22 remaining in the third quarter.
Hendrix would add another rushing touchdown on the final offensive play of the third quarter, pushing the score to 34-7.
Millsaps will compete in their final game of the season as they host Birmingham-Southern at Harper Davis Field for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 13, with opening kick slated for 1 p.m. CT.
