BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Alabama at Birmingham men's basketball team was able to handle Millsaps at Bartow Arena on Sunday. It was an exhibition contest for the Majors, who fell 103-29.
UAB (8-2), which competes at the NCAA Division I level and is the preseason pick to win Conference USA, forced 31 turnovers leading to 44 points. The Blazers outshot the Majors, 49.4 percent to 19.3 percent.
The hosts scored the games' first four points, but sophomore wing
Cameron Williams (nine points, five rebounds, four steals) answered with a pull-up jumper 1:34 in.
UAB pulled away after, claiming a 17-2 advantage at the first media timeout. Millsaps switched to zone defense after the second break and were able to slow the big Blazer roster down.
Sophomore guard
Christian Evans (seven points, three rebounds) pulled off a nice series with just under three minutes to play in the opening half. Evans stripped the ball near midcourt and converted a smooth finger roll on the fast break.
The Majors would continue to fight and tallied a 7-2 run midway through the second half courtesy of Williams free throws and a trey. Williams then turned another steal into points when he found Evans underneath for a layup to end the response.
Freshman forward
Drew Roth (seven points, three rebounds) would add a layup and three-point bucket late to post a strong contribution off the bench.
Millsaps returns to action next Sunday, Dec. 19 and will host Sul Ross State inside the Hangar Dome. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m. with live video and live stats provided at gomajors.com.
