Trinity Downs Millsaps Football in Home Finale

Senior Austin Russell Catches Fourth Touchdown of the Season on Senior Day

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps football team fell in their final home game of the 2021 spring season 37-7 to Trinity University. The home finale at Harper Davis Field also served as Senior Day which celebrated 16 seniors for their accomplishments on and off the field.

Millsaps (0-2, 0-2 SAA) was led offensively by senior wide receiver Austin Russell (79 yards, one touchdown), which resulted in a touchdown for the Majors. Freshman running back Jaidon Horton averaged 5.1 yards per carry.

Defensively, the Majors were buoyed by seniors Mickale Massey and Liam Vincifora with 13 tackles each. Reigning SAA Special Teams Player of the Week Hunter Sellen had another solid outing with an average of 34.5 yards per punt.

Trinity (2-0, 2-0 SAA) had an even day running and passing the ball as they led from start to finish. Tigers' quarterback Tucker Horn led the way as he threw three touchdowns and 165 yards. Running back Mike Edmonson added 99 yards and a score on the ground.

Trinity dominated the time of possession by almost double (39:11 to 20:49). The Tigers posted 504 total yards of offense (246 rushing) to the Majors' 213 total yards.

To start the game, the Tigers opened with a 24-0 advantage before junior quarterback Amryn Jefferey connected with Russell on a 79-yard pitch-and-catch to get the Majors on the board right before halftime.

Trying to turn dig out of the deficit, the Majors had a big pass on its opening play of the third quarter. Jeffrey connected with senior wideout John Wayne Bourgeois on a 36-yard completion. The drive stalled out at Trinity's 35-yard line and resulted in a punt. Trinity would go on to put the game out of reach with back-to-back touchdowns in the third.
