JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps men's soccer team is kicked off their 2021 spring campaign in a condensed seven-game slate on Friday, Feb. 26 in an exhibition against Mississippi College at Harper Davis Field. A second-year head coach and a bevy of fresh faces highlight the 2021 spring season.

Head coach Kurt Albrecht joined the soccer program in February of 2019. With over a decade of college coaching experience under his belt, his most previous coaching stint was as head coach at Illinois College for four seasons.

With 11 freshmen on the 23-man roster, this season will have ample amounts of opportunities for players to step up into big roles. In 2019, Millsaps featured three players who garnered All-SAA nominations in Brett Judd, Alfie Miller and Gabriel Ryce. With those three graduated, the two returning players with the most playing experience for the Majors include Ruben Hamann and Kaleb Newton.

Hamann, a junior midfielder, started in 15 games in 2019. Ruben, who accumulated 1197 minutes and recorded an assist, will look to take the next step and expand his role within the team.

Newton, a sophomore midfielder, amassed 1194 minutes and an assist as well. He started in 15 games and appeared in 17.

Millsaps will open the regular season with three road games at Rhodes (March 14), Hendrix (March 20) and Centre (March 28). The Majors will then host Birmingham-Southern (April 3), Berry (April 9) and Oglethorpe (April 11). League foes will look to advance to the four-team SAA Tournament, held April 16 and 18 at the top overall seed.
