Majors Secure Three Event Wins at Carey Outdoor Challenge

Elliott, Lemoine and Weber Were Victorious in Hattiesburg on Friday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Millsaps men's and women's track and field programs were red hot on a windy and cold day at the Carey Outdoor Challenge on Friday. A trio of Majors posted event wins at the William Carey University Track & Field Complex.

Sophomore Landry Lemoine defeated 11 other competitors in the 5000-meter run in a blistering time of 15:52.8 for his first collegiate win.

High school teammate William Weber secured his first win as a Major in the pole vault, clearing 4.00m. Both Lemoine and Weber attended Saint Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis.

Freshman Patrick Elliott garnered his first victory in just his second college meet. He crossed the 1500-meter line in 4:07.65, nearly three seconds ahead of the nearest challenger.

Joining Elliott in the 1500 was senior Samuel Saia of Jackson. Saia posted a solid sixth-place finish in the 28-runner field with a time of 4:18.93.

Elliott and Saia also cracked the top 10 in the 800m in fourth (2:01.26) and sixth (2:03.70), respectively.

Junior Storm Buescher had another solid showing in the high jump. Buescher finished third overall with a height of 1.93m. Additionally, freshman Jakob Myers-Heldt ended the meet in eighth after throwing his javelin 37.89m.

On the women's side, junior Rose Ward set a personal record in the hammer with a throw of 40.32m at the Rhodes Invitational in Memphis.

The distance squad also tallied top-10 performances at the Carey Outdoor Challenge. In the 1500-meter run, junior Isabel Baird finished sixth in 5:24.51.

Teammates Lily Pudlick, Abby Tew and Katie Williams battled the wind in the 5000. Publick (fourth, 21:16.77) led Tew (seventh, 22:08.95) and Williams (ninth, 23:06.19).

The Majors will embark to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the Hilltop Classic on Friday, March 26.
