JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps softball team split a doubleheader on a Senior Day while hosting Rhodes. The Majors took game one, 7-1 and fell in the second, 9-3 on Sunday.
Millsaps (11-6, 8-1 SAA) won three-of-four games in the series against Rhodes (7-12, 0-6 SAA) at the Millsaps College Softball Complex.
GAME 1: 7-1
Senior
Hayleigh Rogers had a stellar performance in the circle for the Majors, tossing a four-hit, one-run complete game.
Fellow classmate
Lindsey Osbon buoyed the Majors offensively with three RBIs. Seniors
Jordan Lipari and
Leslie Norris both posted a pair of hits.
An Osbon stand-up double plated
Kat Reeves for the first score of the game in the first inning.
Later in the frame, junior
Emily Cook powered a two-run homer over the left field fence to push the Major lead to 3-0.
After surrendering one run in the top of the second inning, the Majors answered with another set of three runs. With the bases loaded, an RBI sacrifice fly by Reeves pushed the lead back up to three. Up next, Osbon continued her dominant performance as she batted home two runners with a dinger to right field for a 6-1 lead.
Millsaps scored one last run in the fifth courtesy of a
Molli Perry single with the bases loaded.
GAME 2: 3-9
The Majors were defeated in game two of the double header, 9-3.
Osbon accumulated three hits and all three RBIs for Millsaps. Perry added two hits to help boost the Major offense.
Rhodes got the scoring started with one run scored in the second inning.
Millsaps found their scoring groove in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI double to center field from Osbon to tie the game at 1-1.
The Lynx were able to add four runs across the plate in the fourth and one more in the fifth to grow a 6-1 lead.
The comeback effort and spark for the Majors began in the bottom of the fifth inning. Perry and Lipari were both walked to open the inning. Osbon helped her teammates round the bases with a double to cut the lead to 6-3.
The Lynx retaliated in the top of the sixth inning with three more runs for a 9-3 advantage. Good pitching and defense from Rhodes would be enough to hold off the Majors from inflicting any more damage for a 9-3 win.
The Majors enter their bye week and will then make the trek to Georgia to face Berry for a set of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3. Both days begin at 11 a.m. with live stats and video links available on gomajors.com.
