Majors Open Conference Play with Sweep of Hendrix

Millsaps Wins Pair of Games on Saturday, 8-6 and 6-4

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps softball team (4-3, 2-0 SAA) looked impressive in its conference debut, downing Hendrix College (0-4, 0-2 SAA) in a doubleheader at the Millsaps Softball Complex on Saturday. The Majors won the first game, 8-6 and followed with a come-from-behind victory in the second, 6-4.

GAME ONE: 8-6
Both teams got off to a hot start offensively with Hendrix leading after the first inning, 3-2. After being down 5-3 after the third inning, the Majors answered with three runs in the fourth to take a 6-5 lead.

Hendrix tied the game in the top of the sixth, but the Majors once again responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame with back-to-back RBI doubles by junior outfielder Kat Reeves and senior infielder Lindsey Osborn. Senior pitcher Hayleigh Rogers would shut the door in the seventh for the save.

Sophomore pitcher Delta Claire Newman recorded the win for the Majors with 4.2 innings pitched, surrendering just two runs against and striking out two batters. Freshman outfielder Katie Norris had a great game with two hits and two RBIs. Junior infielder Brooklyn Wascom also recorded two hits for Millsaps.

GAME TWO: 6-4
A pitcher's duel broke out in game two with both teams struggling to find a rhythm offensively early. Senior pitcher Karley Williams gave up three runs in five innings against 20 batters faced for the Majors. In the last two innings, junior pitcher Cassidy Thrash kept the engine running for the Majors with only one run allowed. Both Majors' pitchers teamed up to leave 10 players stranded on the bases.

Millsaps was down by one run at 3-2, going into the sixth inning. A throwing error by the pitcher allowed senior utility player Jordan Lipari and freshman outfielder Savannah Stafford to score and take a 4-3 lead.

Immediately following the error, freshman outfielder Molli Perry put the game out of reach with an inside-the-park home run that also scored senior outfielder Leslie Norris.

Millsaps will host Hendrix College for another doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. CT. Live stats and video will be available on the softball schedule page at gomajors.com.
