Softball Splits with Hendrix on Sunday

Majors Take Three-of-Four Games Over the Weekend

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps softball team (5-4, 3-1 SAA) split a doubleheader with Hendrix College (1-5, 1-3 SAA) at the Millsaps Softball Complex on Sunday. The Majors won Game One, 12-4 but came up just short in a comeback effort in Game Two, 6-4. In total, Millsaps grabbed three wins in the four-game series over the weekend.

GAME ONE: 12-4 (5 innings)

The Majors' bats got off to a hot start with eight runs tallied in the first inning. A sacrifice fly from junior infielder Brooklyn Wascom got the scoring started for the Majors.

Just putting the ball in play was the Majors' best friend as Lindsey Osbon, Kat Reeves, Jordan Lipari, and Savannah Stafford all scored on a pair of Hendrix errors.

On the mound for the Majors, Hayleigh Rogers and Cassidy Thrash combined for an effort of seven hits and four runs allowed.

Lindsey Osbon was a star for the Millsaps offensively with four RBIs to go with three hits. She finished the game for the Majors in the fifth with a solo home run to boost Millsaps up eight runs and put the mercy rule into effect.

GAME TWO: 6-4

An RBI triple in the second inning for Hendrix capped off a 4-0 run through the first two innings to give the Warriors a solid early cushion in Sunday's Game Two.

Down 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Majors began to rally. An RBI single by sophomore Amber Clark cut the Warriors' lead to three. The Warriors added one more run in the top of the seventh inning to push their advantage back up to four runs with only three outs remaining for the Majors.

Back-to-back RBIs by juniors Ty Bergeron and Masey Blancett cut the deficit to 6-4. However, Hendrix was able to hold off Millsaps' furious comeback attempt.

Senior pitcher Karley Williams pitched a phenomenal game. In five innings, she only allowed three hits and two runs while striking out two batters.

Millsaps will travel to Centre College in Danville, Kentucky for another doubleheader on Saturday, March 13. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. CT. Live stats and video links will be available on the softball schedule page at gomajors.com.
