MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Millsaps baseball team (10-24, 8-16 SAA) lost to Rhodes College (18-12, 14-9 SAA) in both games of a doubleheader at Irwin Lainoff Stadium by counts of 7-5 and 12-2 on Saturday.
Game One: 5-7 (7 Innings)
Chris Hart shined in Game One with two hits, three RBIs and one run scored.
Sam Pitre and
Will Neely exhibited strong performances as well with two hits and an RBI each.
A two-run homer by the Lynx opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning.
With two runners in scoring position, a single from
Will Neely drove
Jon Dale Dieckman home to cut the Majors' deficit to 2-1 in the top of the second.
Offensive action returned in the top of the fourth when Hart belted a bases loaded, three-RBI double down the left field line that scored
Alan Merkle,
Keaton Page, and Neely. Later in the inning, Pitre connected on an RBI single through the right side, scoring Hart to extend the Major lead to 5-2.
The Lynx would respond in the bottom of the fourth with four runs of their own to reclaim the lead at 6-5. They would tack on one more RBI single in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-5 advantage, which Rhodes would never relinquish.
Game Two: 2-12 (7 Innings)
Jack Petkovsek posted one hit, one run and one RBI to lead Millsaps offensively in Game Two.
Dylan McFarland and Pitre both had one hit apiece for the Majors.
Leading 2-0 after two innings, Rhodes rattled off six runs in the bottom of the third to take control of the game.
A homerun and RBI double grew the lead for the Lynx to 10-0 in the bottom of the sixth.
Petkovsek tripled to right field to score Neely to break up the shutout in the seventh. Later in the inning,
Jacob Dickinson hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 10-2.
A two-RBI single from Rhodes pushed the lead back up to ten at 12-2 and ended the game in seven innings.
