BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Millsaps men's and women's track and field programs were on fire at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker, combining for four indoor program records on Friday. Additionally, a pair of Majors set two records each inside the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Senior multi-event student-athlete
Christopher Butler leapt 6.52 meters (21 feet, 4.75 inches) in the men's long jump to finish 12th against NCAA DI, DII, DIII as well as NAIA and NJCAA competitors.
He also ran 7.15 seconds during his preliminary heat of the 60-meter dash and secured a time of 7.21 in the semifinal heats.
Sophomore sprinter
Dez'Tavien Frank tallied records in the 200-meter dash (23.17) and 400-meter dash (51.38).
Though not record-setting, classmate
Natalie Burke crossed the 60-meter line in 8.54 seconds. She also performed well in the women's long jump flying 4.72 meters (15 feet, six inches).
The Majors will next compete in the outdoor season. They will travel to nearby Clinton, Miss. and look to continue their momentum at the Mississippi College Opener on Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4.
