Majors Bested by Mt. St. Joseph, Huntingdon on Saturday

Millsaps Returns for a Rematch with Both Teams to Close the Weekend on Sunday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Millsaps softball team was bested in a pair of games in Montgomery, Ala. on Saturday. The Majors fell to No. 12 Mt. Saint Joseph, 11-3 and were edged by host Huntingdon, 1-0 at the Samford Softball Complex.

Game One: L, 11-3 (Five Innings)

Sophomore Molli Perry totaled two hits and two runs in the opening game against Mt. Saint Joseph (3-2). Senior Kat Reeves also added a run while Emily Cook and Katelyn Norris tallied RBIs.

The lions rattled off seven runs in the first inning to grab a commanding lead early. The Majors got on the board in the top of the third when Cook blasted an RBI double to centerfield to score Perry.

Millsaps would close the gap even more with two more runs in the fifth, but Mount St. Joseph would answer with four runs in the same inning to reach a final score of 11-3.

Game Two: L, 0-1 (Seven Innings)

Perry went 2-for-3 and tallied a walk as the Majors fell to a walk-off walk in the bottom of the seventh to Huntingdon (6-3). Reeves and junior MacKenzie Fleming also recorded hits in the pitcher's duel.

Senior Cassidy Thrash was terrific going 6.2 innings, allowing six hits and just the one run.

Perry and Fleming would lead off the first and second innings with hits, respectively. However, the Hawks would close out the opportunities quickly.

With Perry reaching third in the third inning, an attempted bunt by Norris would be unsuccessful as she was thrown out at first for the third out of the frame.

Senior Brooklyn Wascom would reach second in the fourth inning with two outs but was kept off the scoreboard two batters later.

The eventual last offensive threat by the Majors would come in the seventh when Perry would single with two outs. Reeves would ground out on a bunt attempt to close the frame for the Majors.

The Hawks would score the game-winning tally in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off walk.

The Majors will face Mount St. Joseph and Huntingdon again on Saturday at 12 and 4 p.m., respectively. Check gomajors.com for live stats and live video links.
