JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's softball team hung tough in a 3-1 battle with No. 8 Birmingham- Southern College.
Molli Perry and
Katie Norris tallied two hits each at the Millsaps Softball Complex on Sunday.
The first four Majors reached base to begin the game. A pair of hits and fielder's choices would lead to a 1-0 lead when
Kat Reeves scored on a throwing error. This would chase Panther pitcher Cassidy Dickson after recording just one out. Hailee Bryan would enter and make things difficult for Millsaps (8-15, 3-3 SAA) from there.
Birmingham-Southern (16-4, 9-1 SAA) would match the Majors on the scoreboard in the third inning when the Panthers capitalized on a bases loaded opportunity with a hit-by-pitch. BSC would then take the lead in the top of the fourth when the leadoff batter made it home on a fielding error with two outs.
The Panthers would then gain insurance in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice bunt and the bases loaded to take a 3-1 advantage. This would ultimately be the final run scored in a defensive battle, and BSC would hold on for the victory.
The Majors' scheduled doubleheader with MUW on Tuesday has been postponed due to projected inclement weather. A new date will be announced at a later date. Millsaps will next travel to Rhodes for another SAA three-game series, beginning at noon on Saturday. Live stats and video will be available at gomajors.com.
