MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Looking to complete the series sweep against Rhodes College, the Millsaps softball team ultimately fell short by a score of 6-2 on Sunday. Senior
Emily Cook and sophomore
Savanah Stafford secured two hits each at Rhodes Softball Field.
Delta Claire Newman was strong in the circle as she didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning. The Lynx batters struggled early at the plate and only produced three hits and two runs against her on a bases-loaded situation.
Millsaps (10-16, 5-6 SAA) responded with a fielder's choice RBI by
Mackenzie Fleming to score Stafford. They would then proceed to knot the game up at 2-2 when
Katie Norris was walked with the bases loaded to advance
Kat Reeves to home.
With the bases full again in the bottom of the fifth inning, Rhodes (9-15, 1-8 SAA) was able to tack on one more run for a 3-2 advantage. The Lynx would then add insurance with three more runs in the sixth inning en route to the 6-2 victory.
Millsaps will head home for a midweek doubleheader against The W, with first pitch beginning at 4 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at gomajors.com.
