Softball Claims Series Sweep of Centre with 9-1 Win on Sunday

Majors Run Rule Entire Three-Game Series for First Time Since 2016

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps women's softball team dominated in a 9-1 triumph of Centre to finish off a historic weekend with a three-game sweep. It was the first time the softball program swept an opposing SAA opponent with the eight-run rule in each game of the series since April of 2016. Kat Reeves, Molli Perry and Amber Clark all had two hits each inside the Millsaps Softball Complex on Sunday.

Perry and Reeves scored two times each, while Clark and Katie Norris both had two RBIs. Delta Claire Newman and Cassidy Thrash were strong as a pitching duo as they only allowed four hits on the day.

It was a pitcher's duel early as neither team crossed the plate in the first two innings. Centre struck first with an RBI double in the top of the third, but they relinquished the lead immediately in the next half inning with a costly error that allowed Perry and freshman infielder Alli Nolen to score.

Reeves would also cross home plate moments later when she capitalized on a passed ball. Emily Cook would then be the final Major to score in the bottom of the third when Clark smashed an RBI double to center field to give the Majors a 4-1 advantage.

After blanking Centre in the top of the fourth inning, Millsaps would look to deal more damage at the plate. Reeves would answer the call with an RBI single down the left field line to assist senior outfielder Katelyn Norse to home.

With two runners in scoring position, Norris then belted a ball through the left side to clear the bases. Later in the inning, Clark would earn an RBI single that would score pinch runner Valirea Sentelle. On the same play, Mackenzie Fleming took advantage of a throwing error to give the Majors a 9-1 advantage.

Thrash and the Majors remained solid in the top of the fifth to give Millsaps a 9-1 run-rule victory.

The Majors will now host crosstown rival Belhaven for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, March 9. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. with live stats and video available at gomajors.com.
