Majors Wear Down Warriors for SAA Softball Series Victory

Majors Edged 2-1 in Game One, Claim 5-3 Win in Game Two of Regular-Season Finale

CONWAY, Ark. – The Millsaps softball team utilized great team play to earn a victory in their regular-season finale against Hendrix College on Friday. Following a victory against the Warriors on Thursday, the Majors split a doubleheader to win the series at Warrior Softball Field.

Game One: L, 2-1

Delta Claire Newman
had an impressive outing in 4.0 innings as she only allowed one run and four hits.

Katelyn Norse blasted a two-out home run to left-center field to give Millsaps (17-21, 11-7 SAA) the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Hendrix (18-16, 8-10 SAA) utilized an RBI-single to knot the game up in the third inning.

With neither team able to gain traction over the next two innings, the Warriors earned the lead with another RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth. Down to their last three outs, Amber Clark would serve as the tying run when she reached base. Ultimately, the Majors would be kept at bay as Hendrix would tally three outs for the game two victory to even the series.

Game Two: W, 5-3

Ty Bergeron (two doubles), Abbi Tycer and Norse all totaled two hits each in the second contest on Friday.

Molli Perry scored the first run of the game thanks to an RBI-single from Norse. Norse would score later in the first inning to give the Majors an early 2-0 advantage. Hendrix would respond in the bottom of the first frame by cutting the Millsaps' lead in half with an RBI of their own.

Gaining separation, the Majors would create a 4-1 lead in the third inning when Tycer punched the ball to center field to help Mackenzie Fleming and Valirea Sentelle score. The Warriors would once again answer in the bottom of the same inning with one run to make it a 4-2 game.

Trying to close the gap, Hendrix scored on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning to cut their deficit to 4-3. Earning breathing room in the top of the seventh, Savanah Stafford scored when Fleming put the ball in play on an RBI groundout. The Majors would use strong defensive play to finish off the Warriors and tally the rubber match win and obtain the series triumph.

The Majors are now scheduled to travel to Birmingham, Ala. as the No. 3 seed in the SAA Tournament. Pod play will begin against an opponent to be determined on Thursday, April 21. First pitch will be set at a later time with live stats and video available at gomajors.com.
