Track and Field Sets 40 Personal Bests as Six Majors Named to All-SAA Team

Storm Buescher Wins Men’s High Jump, Patrick Elliott Sets 800m School Record

MT. BERRY, Ga. – The Millsaps men's and women's track and field teams saved their best for last as a team at the 2022 SAA Outdoor Track and Championships, Friday and Saturday at Berry College.

The Majors combined for 40 personal records as senior Storm Buescher claimed the men's high jump and sophomore Patrick Elliott ran a Millsaps record time in the 800 meters. Millsaps had six total-athletes earn a spot on the All-SAA team as well as post nine top-five program finishes. Both programs finished sixth overall.

Buescher won his second conference title in the high jump after clearing 2.00 meters without a missed attempt. He made the All-SAA First Team with the effort.

Elliott finished fourth in the 800 with a sizzling time of 1:58.51, while four other Majors posted personal bests in the event. The Covington, La., native also scored points in the 1500m with a result of 4:05.59 for fourth.

Additionally, junior Christopher Butler finished second for All-SAA Second Team status in the men's long jump. His best leap covered 6.93 meters.

The men's 4x100-meter relay squad of Butler, MoÏse Tezzo, Dez'Tavien Frank and Sergey Kolesnik also made the All-SAA podium. The quartet combined for an incredible third-place finish in 42.30 seconds, which was second fastest in program history and only 0.04 off the top mark.

Kolesnik, Elliott, Landry Lemoine and Frank teamed up for a sixth place showing in the 4x400m relay (3:34.86). Kolesnik also finished 10th (11.12) alongside Butler (13th, 11.20) in the 100-meter dash. Butler's time ranks him fifth in the Millsaps record book and Kolesnik sits second having ran 11.06 earlier this season.

Sophomore Otis Kenner posted the third-fastest time in school history in the 110m hurdles (17.53) to close in 13th place. Also performing well was classmate Jakob Myers-Heldt, who notched a personal best in the javelin throw (8th, 43.28m).

On the women's side, freshman Natalie Burke and senior Carolina Teague had outstanding meets by scoring in multiple events. Burke finished fifth in the long jump (5.07m), sixth in the triple jump (10.17m) and eighth in the 100-meter dash finals (13.03). She also ran 12.77 seconds in prelims which in third swiftest in Millsaps history.

Teague was named All-SAA in the 400-meter hurdles with a second-place performance (1:07.31). She also crossed the line in fifth in the 400 meters (1:01.19). Her teammate Alyssa Navarre wasn't far behind, ending the event in seventh (personal-best 1:03.34).

Another record-breaker was junior Khloe Colar, who ran the second best Millsaps mark in the 100m hurdles (10th, 17.87). She also scored in the long jump (8th, personal-best 4.75m).

The Millsaps distance runners also had a terrific showing over the weekend. Freshman Sarah Strickland became the third fastest Millsaps 3000-meter steeplechase runner (7th, 12:36.80). She was a part of a competitive group in the 800 meters as well. Clare Howard (7th, 2:28.67), Isabel Baird (9th, 2:28.85) and Strickland (10th, 2:28.87) all finished closely together.

Baird also etched her name as the third swiftest 1500-meter runner, covering the distance in 5:06.52 for ninth position.

Senior Rose Ward scored in the 5000 meters (6th, 19:22.93) just ahead of graduate Abby Tew (9th, 19:53.86). Tew was Millsaps' top finisher in the 10K as well (9th, 42:47.55).

Both the 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays finished in fifth place. Burke, Ranee' LeVasseur, Jordan Jefferies and Colar clocked 51.98, while Navarre, Alli Despaux, Strickland and Teague tallied a time of 4:18.59.

A select group of Majors will now look to improve their chances of qualifying for nationals by competing in the Carey Last Chance Meet in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Friday, May 13.
