JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps softball team competed against No. 5 Belhaven in a midweek matchup, falling 7-2 at the Millsaps Softball Complex on Wednesday.
Millsaps (13-19) was led by senior left fielder
Kat Reeves, who posted two hits. Junior pitcher
Hannah Derouen finished with three strikeouts against two hits and one run in 2.0 IP of relief. Sophomore
Haylie Hoffpauir tallied her first career RBI in her lone plate appearance.
Belhaven (23-4) built and 7-0 advantage through the first four innings. Reeves provided the Majors' first hit in the bottom of the same frame.
The Majors would then score their first run in the sixth after
Molli Perry and Reeves led off with singles. A heads up baserunning play by Perry would give Millsaps its first run of the game when Belhaven recorded an out at second base and got distracted on a double play attempt. Perry would slide into home safely with the play at the plate.
After
Megan Authement would reach third on an
Emily Cook hit and steal of third, Hoffpauir would score her teammate to make it a 7-2 deficit.
Millsaps would look for more in the seventh, posting two walks, a steal and a forced error. However, Belhaven would hold with the bases loaded for the Wednesday win.
Millsaps next hosts Berry for Senior Day on Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m. The eight Major seniors will be honored between games of a doubleheader. Live stats and video will be available at gomajors.com.
