JACKSON, Miss. – It was an offensive fireworks display, but the Millsaps football team came up just short to No. 16-nationally ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 41-17 at Harper Davis Field on Saturday.
Senior star wideout
Moïse Tezzo was elite once again, tallying a game-high nine receptions and 123 yards. It was the third consecutive game the C Spire Conerly Trophy nominee eclipsed the 100-yard plateau.
Sophomore quarterback
Brody Davis finished 12-of-24 passing with 140 yards and an interception. Freshman running back
Jordan Osborn carried the ball nine times for 30 yards on the ground.
Defensively, sophomore
Thomas Patterson tallied a team-high seven tackles, while junior
Zach Clark added three tackles and a sack.
UW-Oshkosh scored on their opening drive and added a two-point conversion for an early 8-0 lead. On the next Major offensive play, a Titan interception would set up the visitors on the Millsaps four-yard line. UWO would punch in the ball for another touchdown, but would fail on a second two-point try.
The visitors would score two more scores before halftime, however, a
Jett Coolman blocked PAT would hold the deficit to 27-0 at the break.
UWO would build a 34-0 edge with an opening-drive score in the third quarter. Millsaps then put together an impressive 11-play, 62-yard drive which ended in a 30-yard
Ethan Klapatch field goal.
Facing a 41-3 deficit, the Majors would add two rushing touchdowns of their own to continue battling into the fourth quarter. Freshman running back
Cae'Lon Paige would punch it home from three yards out and senior quarterback
Melvindrick Johnson added a four-yard rushing score on the Majors' final drive.
After a bye week, Millsaps begins SAA action when it travels to face Sewanee on Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m., while live stats and video will be available on gomajors.com.
