JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps football team battled, but fell short to Belhaven in the 2022 edition of the Riverside Rumble, 49-21 at Harper Davis Field on Thursday.
Offensively, sophomore
Brody Davis completed 24-of-47 passes for 236 yards and one touchdown through the air. He added 12 yards on the ground and another score.
Senior wideout
Moïse Tezzo hauled in seven catches on seven targets for 114 yards and a touchdown. Graduate
Nick Ojonta led the way with a career-high 10 tackles.
The Blazers opened the scoring midway through the first quarter after a 73 yard-rushing play. Millsaps would immediately answer going the other way for six points. Tezzo would haul in a 39-yard target, while sophomore
Xavion Butler hauled in a 20-yard pass. Senior
Montreal Felix finished off the drive with a one-yard rush up the middle.
Belhaven would then answer for the game's next 28 points, making it a 35-6 contest. The Majors would cut into the deficit late in the third quarter following a Tezzo 21-yard touchdown grab.
The deficit would grow to 49-13 before Davis would find the end zone on an eight-yard rush with two minutes remaining. Davis followed by running a fake and found junior tight end
D.B. Bennett alone in the left endzone for a two-point conversion.
Millsaps will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 10 when they face McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. Live video and live stats are available at gomajors.com.
