Brianna Newman and senior
Delta Claire Newman of the Millsaps softball team were honored by the Southern Athletic Association for their on-field success over the weekend. Brianna was named the SAA Player of the Week, while Delta Claire was tabbed the SAA Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
The Majors swept Austin College in a four-game series during a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, thanks in large part to the duos' efforts.
First baseman
Brianna Newman was stellar by hitting .643, going 9-for-14 with 10 RBIs, while adding three runs scored, three stolen bases, two walks and a triple. In game three on Saturday, she hit 3-for-4 with four RBIs and tallied the triple. She also pitched seven complete innings allowing just two earned runs in an 8-7 win.
Pitcher
Delta Claire Newman had a strong performance, throwing a complete 7.0 innings, while allowing just one earned run, one walk, five hits to go along with two strikeouts. She didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning and sat the first nine 'Roos down in order.
The Majors will next travel to Huntingdon for another doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Live video and stats will be available at gomajors.com.
