Softball Downed by Centenary in Tuesday Road Doubleheader

Majors Complete Road Trip at Belhaven in Another Doubleheader on Saturday

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Millsaps softball team fell in a doubleheader against the Centenary College Ladies, 5-2 and 5-3 at the Centenary Softball Complex on Tuesday.

Game 1: 2-5, L

Senior Delta Claire Newman pitched 6.0 innings with five runs against, nine hits and two strikeouts. Classmate Magen Authement and junior Molli Perry scored a run and earned a walk each.

The Majors were held to three hits and managed five walks against a stingy Centenary pitching staff.

Millsaps looked destined for a big opening game when the first four Majors reached via base on balls in the second inning, resulting in an early 1-0 edge. The Ladies would respond and post a 4-1 lead in their half of the second.

Perry would attempt to spark a rally in the top of the third after reaching on an error and promptly stole second. She would reach third base on a Brianna Newman single and would be plated on a Katie Norris ground out.

Centenary added another run in the third frame and would hold the Majors to two hits over the final four innings.

Game 2: 3-5, L

Sophomore Alli Nolen finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in Game Two. Perry stole a base and scored twice, while Norris drew two walks.

The Majors got on the board in the opening inning courtesy of a Nolen RBI ground out, sending Perry home.

Millsaps would double its lead to 2-0 in the third when freshman Tayler Gonzales powered an RBI single to left center to score Perry again.

Centenary would respond shortly after in the bottom of the frame with four runs. The Ladies would add another tally in the fifth to make it 5-2.

Millsaps put up a fight in the final inning looking to battle back. Norris would walk to open the seventh and be replaced by pinch runner Haylie Hoffpauir. Nolen then singled and reached second on the throw, but Hoffpauir would be thrown out attempting to reach third base. An error would later score Nolen, but Centenary would hold on for a 5-3 win.

The Majors will conclude its six-game road trip in a doubleheader at Belhaven, beginning at 12 p.m. on Saturday. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com
