GREENSBORO, N.C. – Hard work led to championship hardware and an All-America finish for Millsaps swimming and diving graduate
Bryan Sullivan inside the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Thursday. He placed seventh in the A Final of the 100-yard butterfly at the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
He covered the course in 47.92 seconds during the evening session, becoming the first All-American in the four-seasons of the Millsaps swimming and diving program.
Sullivan advanced to the A Final by placing eighth in the prelims with a mark of 47.94 seconds earlier in the day. He entered the prelims with the 10th-fastest time. A total of 42 student-athletes competed and each went under 50 seconds.
The MBA student was just off his school and Southern Athletic Association record of 47.74 seconds, set in November. Sullivan's times on Thursday were the second- and third-quickest of his collegiate career.
On Wednesday, Sullivan advanced to the B Final of the men's 50-yard freestyle. The Jackson, Miss., product finished 10th out of 51 competitors. His time of 20.13 seconds was the second-fastest this season and of his career. Sullivan also owns the school and SAA record mark of 20.05 in the event. In the B Final, the judges ruled a 15-meter underwater violation.
Millsaps is ranked 24th in the team score halfway through the championships after earning 12 points in the 100-yard butterfly.
Sullivan will compete one final time for the Majors in the men's 100-yard breaststroke on Friday. The preliminaries for the men's 50-yard breaststroke are scheduled to begin at 9:55 a.m. CT, while the finals will get underway at approximately 5:46 p.m. CT.
