ATLANTA – For the second consecutive week, a Millsaps men's and women's track and field duo were recognized by the Southern Athletic Association. Senior
Christopher Butler was named SAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week after back-to-back meets, while freshman
Eleanor Scott garnered SAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week recognition, the conference office revealed on Monday.
Butler finished fifth as the top DIII placer in the long jump at 6.65 meters. He also ran the second-fastest time in school history for 100 meters with a mark of 10.97 seconds. Additionally, Butler helped the Majors finish fourth in the 4x100-meter relay at 43.80 seconds.
The New Orleans, La., product holds the conference record in the long jump at 7.30 meters (23 feet-11.5 inches) and contested the event at the 2021 NCAA DIII Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
He is currently ranked first across the SAA in the long jump with a season-best bound of 6.72 meters set on March 10. Butler's sub-11 second sprint is currently sixth fastest.
Scott tallied second place in the triple jump with a leap of 10.59 meters, which ranks second in program history. Scott also was second in the high jump at 1.50 meters on Saturday.
Earlier this season, the Clinton, Miss., native cleared 1.55 meters in the high jump to sit fourth in the school record book. Both Scott's jumping events are second-best in the SAA.
A total of four Majors have received SAA weekly plaudits for men's and women's track and field through three outdoor meets. Sophomore
Natalie Burke was also tabbed the SAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week on March 20.
The Majors next travel to Hattiesburg to compete in the Southern Miss Invitational, Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1.
