COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Millsaps softball team traveled to MUW for a non-conference matchup, but was bested by the Owls, 7-2 and 6-4 in a doubleheader at the Don Usher Softball Field on Tuesday.
Game 1: 7-2, L
Senior
Amber Clark hit 1-3 with two RBIs and freshman
Tayler Gonzales went 1-3 with a run scored.
MUW would score first with a run in the first inning and add three more in the third and one more in the fourth.
The Owls made it 7-0 with a pair of tallies in the sixth. Millsaps tried to comeback in the seventh with Clark singling home Gonzales and junior
Katie Norris from second and third, respectively.
Millsaps would play out the inning with two runs, three hits, and five runners reach base, but it was not enough to make a comeback as the owls grabbed a 7-2 win.
Game 2: 6-4, L
Clark posted another strong effort in Game Two of the twin bill, going 3-4 with a double and run scored. Junior
Haylie Hoffpauir finished 2-3 with two RBIs. Senior
Magen Authement recorded two RBIs and a double.
MUW jumped out front, 4-0 through two innings. The Majors rebounded with two runs in the third. Authement doubled the ball down the left field line to score junior
Molli Perry and Gonzales.
The Owls added two more runs with scores in the fourth and fifth innings. Millsaps would continue to battle back into the game when in the top of the sixth Hoffpauir knocked a single to center field to plate Clark from second.
The Majors added a fourth run in the seventh when Hoffpauir plated Gonzales with two outs. With runners on second and third, MUW escaped by recording the final out for a 6-4 win.
