JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps softball team fell in a doubleheader to Belhaven, 7-0 and 11-1 at the Millsaps College Softball Complex on Tuesday.
Game 1: 7-0, L
Senior
Magen Authement finished 1-2, while teammate and junior
Hannah Hoffpauir posted a walk.
Hannah Derouen pitched all seven innings, striking out seven Blazers against three walks and six earned runs.
Belhaven opened the game with a first-inning run before Hoffpauir reached base via the base on balls in the bottom of the frame.
Deroeun garnered back-to-back strikeouts in the second before the Blazers would add two more runs in the top of the third.
The Blazers would add a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh to build and later hold a 7-0 win. Authement broke up the no-hit bid in the sixth.
Game 2: 11-1, L
Junior
Brianna Newman ended Game Two going 2-3 with one run scored. Freshman
Tayler Gonzalez also went 2-3, while senior
Amber Clark registered an RBI.
The Blazers scored first with a run in the opening inning. Belhaven then used back-to-back home runs to push the lead 3-0 in the third.
Gonzales and Black posted back-to-back hits in the third, but Belhaven held.
The Blazers accumulated one more run in the sixth and would generate seven runs in the seventh.
Millsaps would stop the shutout in the bottom of the seventh. Newman opened the inning with a double and reached third on a wild pitch. Clark then sailed a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Newman.
The Majors will complete the regular season at home against Berry, Saturday and Sunday. Senior Day recognition will take place between Saturday's noon and 2 p.m. doubleheader. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
