JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps track and field program performed strong at the Rhodes 7-Way Meet, posting 20 top-10 finishes at the Wolfe Track and Field Complex on Saturday.
Senior
William Weber and sophomore
Patch Heard also registered top-five marks in the school's record book. Weber secured the third-best toss in the javelin at 50.76 meters, finishing sixth on the day. Heard now has the fourth-fastest time in the 800 meters at 2:00.80, which was good for eighth overall.
Weber became the third Major to eclipse 50 meters in the javelin and sits just behind the top distance of 55.28 meters set by Michael Tadda in 2018. He also ended the meet in seventh in the pole vault (4.00 meters).
Junior
Patrick Elliott, the 800-meter school record holder with a mark of 1:58.51, ended Saturday in sixth just ahead of Heard (1:59.66). Additionally, Elliott was the runner-up in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:04.50 as the best NCAA Division III finisher.
Other top-10 performers included junior
Anthony Mayfield in the triple jump (fifth, 11.59 meters), sophomore
Dez'Tavien Frank in the 400 meters (seventh, 50.13 seconds) and senior
Christopher Butler in the 100 meters (eighth, 11.25).
Freshman
Joshua Richardson, senior
Moïse Tezzo along with Frank and Butler were third in the 4x100-meter relay (43.12).
Heard, Elliott, Frank and freshman
Chase Spring also placed fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (3:34.94).
On the women's side, sophomore
Natalie Burke brought home a runner-up finish in the long jump (5.17 meters) as the top NCAA D3 student-athlete. Burke was also excellent in the 100 meters (13.09) and just ahead of freshman
Ashanti Lastrapes (10th, 13.42).
The Majors excelled in other field events, including freshman
Sierra Schmidt in the pole vault (fourth, 2.95 meters), sophomore
Tyler Hamby in the javelin (fifth, 29.56 meters) and freshman
Eleanor Scott in the triple jump (fifth, 10.29 meters). Scott was also 10th in the high jump at 1.47 meters.
Senior
Khloe Colar and the 4x100-meter relay were also solid in Memphis. Colar placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:22.92. Lastrapes, Burke along with graduate
Onyx Magno and sophomore
Ranee' LeVasseur ended the competition in fourth as a team (54.25).
The Millsaps track and field programs will now compete in a to-be-determined last chance meet or will look for conference titles at the 2023 SAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Danville, Ky., April 28-29.
