HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Millsaps men's and women's track and field programs continued their impressive season combining for three school records and several quality finishes at the University of Southern Mississippi Invitational on Saturday.
Freshman
Eleanor Scott established a new triple jump mark and sophomore
Sarah Strickland etched her name atop the 1,500-meter leaderboard, while sophomore
Dez'Tavien Frank bettered his own mark in the 400-meter dash at the Marshall Bell Track Complex
Scott, the reigning SAA Field Athlete of the Week, leapt 10.65 meters as the top NCAA Division III student-athlete. The distance is second-best in the Southern Athletic Association this season and secured a fourth-place performance.
Strickland ran the 1500 in 5:02.82 to place ninth as the top DIII competitor at the USM Invitational on Saturday. She bettered the old school record of 5:03.15 set back in 2014. Her time currently ranks third across the SAA.
Sophomore
Natalie Burke was also strong in jumping events at USM. She was 10th in the triple jump (9.93 meters) and 13th in the long jump (4.81 meters).
Additionally, classmate
Tyler Hamby was fourth in the javelin at 30.31 meters behind three DI competitors. Sophomore
Fran Edwards led a pack of Majors in the 5000 meters, placing third through sixth. Edwards clocked 21:39.52 in bronze position.
Senior

On the men's side, Frank bettered his own record in the 400-meter dash by placing 16th in a time of 49.89 seconds – the swiftest for a DIII runner. He also registered the fourth-fastest time in program history in the 200 with a mark of 22.64 seconds (19th). Frank's 400 time is second-best and his 200 is fifth-fastest in the SAA.
Sophomore
Patch Heard posted the fifth-quickest time in the school records at 800 meters. He was the highest DIII performer (ninth overall) with a time of 2:01.83.
Senior
William Weber set a personal-best throw in the javelin. He ended the meet in third at 45.75 meters. Not far behind was sophomore
