JACKSON, Miss. – A dozen returners will look to buoy the Millsaps men's and women's swimming and diving programs into the 2023-24 season. Additionally, five newcomers will look to make an impact in their first collegiate seasons.
Head coach
Brian Ware enters his fifth season at the helm, having coached both programs since their first year of competition in 2019.
The Majors are back in full force after combining for 14 school records during the 2023 SAA Swimming and Diving Championships and will compete in nine regular-season meets to finish another season by making waves in 2024.
Senior
Casey Miller ranks as the men's program's only upperclassman after All-American
Bryan Sullivan ended his collegiate swimming career in March. Miller was a part of the 800-yard free relay that stills stands from 2021.
Sophomores
Ben Anderson,
Kaiden Auzenne,
David Kingsbury, and
Andrew Meadows comprise the returners. Anderson holds the 200-yard freestyle record (1:43.52), and along with Auzenne and Meadows, is a member of four relay school records. Meadows is on three of those relays and also owns the 400-yard IM mark (4:25.76) and 1000-yard freestyle mark (11:33.97).
The women's team features seniors
Ginny Ray Clevenger and
Madisyn Latino, along with three juniors in
Chloee Beebe,
Kat Burns and
Catherine Passarelli.
Clevenger holds four records in the 100-yard back, 200-yard back, 200-yard fly and 400-yard IM. Latino is the school's fastest swimmer in the 200-yard free (2:05.27) and Passarelli is the fastest swimmer in three distance events (500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free).
Burns owns four records as well, including the 50-yard free, 100-yard free, 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard breaststroke.
Sophomore
Zoe Cowell also possesses the 200-yard breaststroke top time, while classmate
Abigail Hoffman is a member of the record-setting 200-yard medley relay. The has members on all five total record-breaking relays.
Newcomers on the men's side include
Payton Jones,
Brian Ridner and
Jackson Van Meter. The women's side will add rising freshmen
Haylei Pineda and
Bryn Waller.
The Majors begin the season at Delta State on Friday, Sept. 22 and will host three matches against Centenary (Oct. 28), Rhodes (Nov. 4) and West Florida (Jan. 19). All home meets will be contested at GRIT Training in Flowood, Miss.
Millsaps sets its sights on conference crowns at the SAA Swimming and Diving Championships inside the Birmingham CrossPlex, Feb. 7-10.
Elite qualifiers will have the opportunity to compete in the 2024 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, held in Greensboro, N.C., March 20-23.
