JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps softball team (8-16, 3-6 SAA) put up a hard-fought against Centre (11-17, 4-8 SAA) but fell, 4-3 on Saturday at the Millsaps College Softball Complex.
Freshman Alli Powell batted 2-for-3 with an RBI, senior Katie Norris finished 2-for-4 alongside an RBI and classmate Camille Black doubled, walked and scored a pair of runs.
Freshman Allana Vasquez pitched five innings of scoreless relief for the Majors with two strikeouts and no walks against.
Classmate Kadence Cannon doubled in the first inning to send Black all the way home from first, giving the Majors a 1-0 cushion.
In the bottom of the second inning, Centre replied right back with a leadoff triple and was singled to the plate two batters later.
Millsaps would respond back again regain a 2-1 margin in the bottom of the second after junior Alli Nolen walked and scored courtesy of a Powell double down the left-field line.
Centre fired right back in the top of the third with a single, double and three-run homer to take their first lead of the game at 4-2.
The Majors put runners on the corners in the bottom of the third with one out, but the Colonels ended the threat with a pop up and fly out.
Keeping their hopes alive, Millsaps would score again in the top of the fifth inning with a Norris single to left field, pointing Black home from second base.
Senior Haylie Hoffpauir later tripled in the bottom of the sixth, but was thrown out a home on the next play. Centre would stop the Majors in the bottom of the seventh inning as well to take Game Three, 4-3 on Saturday.
The Majors will be back in action on Tuesday at Belhaven in a doubleheader, beginning at 5 p.m. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
