Softball Falls in Doubleheader to Huntingdon on Sunday

Kinsey Smith Records First Home Run as a Major

JACKSON, Miss. – The Millsaps softball team fell in a challenging doubleheader against Huntingdon, 16-3 and 12-2 at the Millsaps Softball Complex on Sunday.

Game 1: 16-3 (5 innings), L

Sophomore Kinsey Smith tallied her first collegiate home run as a Major, while also scoring a run and earning a walk.

Freshman Allana Vasquez secured a hit and two RBIs, while sophomore Julia Strain (double, run scored) and senior Camille Black both batted 1-for-2. Classmate Molli Perry added a hit, run and stole a base.

Huntingdon built a 13-0 advantage through four innings at the plate.

However, in the bottom of the fourth, Smith would blast a homer over the left-center field wall to put the Majors on the scoreboard.

Huntingdon would continue to stretch their lead with three runs in the top of the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the same frame, Vasquez singled to right center to score Strain and Perry.

The Hawks would put away the inning with a catch in left field to secure the Game One victory.

Game 2: 12-2 (5 innings), L

Smith batted 2-for-2 with an RBI and walk, while Perry went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored in the rematch on Sunday.

Freshman Alli Powell recorded a hit, RBI and walk as classmate Kadence Cannon doubled and scored a run.

Huntingdon (12-0) would jump ahead in the top the first, 1-0 before the Majors tied the game in the bottom of the second inning. Cannon doubled and would be plated with a Powell single in the next at-bat.

The Hawks would extend their lead to 10-1 with nine runs in the top of the third. Millsaps scored a run in the bottom of the third when Smith singled Perry home from third.

Huntingdon would put up two runs in the top of the fifth to take down the Majors, 12-2 to finalize the game.

Millsaps will be back in action, beginning a three-game series against Centenary on Saturday, in Shreveport, La. Saturday will feature a 12 p.m. doubleheader with Sunday's finale commencing at noon as well. Live video and live stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
