Softball Takes Down Centenary in Doubleheader on Saturday

Allana Vasquez Records First Collegiate Home Run, Vasquez and Mya Skinner Throw Complete Games

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Millsaps softball team downed Centenary, 5-2 and 8-4 in a doubleheader at the Centenary Softball Complex on Saturday. 
 
Game 1: 5-2, W 
 
Senior Molli Perry led the team with a hit, two stolen bases, a walk and scored a run as seven different Majors recorded a hit in Game One. 
 
Freshman Mya Skinner tossed a complete seven innings while only allowing three hits, two runs, no walks to go along with four strikeouts. 
 
Millsaps jumped on board first over Centenary in the top of the second inning when senior Katie Norris scored on an error by the pitcher. Classmate Camille Black singled to right field, stole a base and made it 2-0 on a passed ball. 
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Centenary would utilize two hits and a sacrifice fly to make it 2-2. 
 
In the top of the fifth, Millsaps would answer right back with a pair of runs following two runs when freshman Alli Powell scored on an error and senior Haylie Hoffpauir reached out on a sophomore Kinsey Smith ground out. 
 
Centenary would keep the Majors from touching home plate until the top of the seventh inning when Cannon singled to right field to score Perry. 
 
Back-to-back fly outs and a line out gave Millsaps a 5-2 win over the Ladies in Game One. 
 
Game 2: 8-4, W 
 
Freshman Allana Vasquez recorded her first home run as a Major, while batting 2-for-3 with a run scored and walk. Classmate Kadence Cannon went 3-for-4 while leading the team with two RBIs, two runs scored and a double. 
 
Junior Alli Nolen (one RBI, one run scored) and Black (two runs) both finished 2-for-4. 
 
Vasquez also pitched a complete seven innings for the Majors while striking out three batters and only allowing three walks and two earned runs. 
 
Centenary got on the board in the bottom of the first, but Vasquez would tie the game with her first collegiate home run to lead off the second inning. 
 
Millsaps' advantage stretched to 3-1 in the top of the third inning when Cannon doubled home Black and Perry. 
 
However in the bottom of the third, Centenary would respond back with three hits, two runs and an error to draw the game even at 3-3. 
 
Millsaps regained the lead at 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth from Norris, Nolen and Black runs.  
 
In the top of the fifth, Millsaps would continue to dominate with a 7-3 margin on the diamond as Nolen singled to left center to send Cannon to home plate.  
 
The Majors would post their last run in the top of the seventh inning with a Norris hit to left field, which brought around Cannon. 
 
The Ladies scored the final tally in the bottom of the seventh before a fly out to Norris in left field put the game to rest and give the Majors an 8-4 triumph in Game Two.
