Softball Falls in Series at No. 5 Berry

Majors Dropped by Vikings in Road Games over the Weekend

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Millsaps softball team was faced with a difficult challenge and fell short to No. 5 nationally ranked Berry College in a three-game weekend series at Kay Williams Field on Saturday and Sunday.

Game 1: 12-0, L (5 inn.)

Sophomore Tayler Gonzales and senior Molli Perry each recorded hits in Game One.

Berry took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and would score later in the bottom of the second with an RBI.

The Vikings then made it 6-0 in the bottom of the third inning. The fourth inning saw Millsaps load up the bases as senior Camille Black advanced on an error, Gonzales singled and Nolen walked. to first from an error by Berry second baseman. Berry would end the inning with a strikeout swinging.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Vikings would put the game away with six runs to claim Game One, 12-0.


Game 2: 14-2, L (5 inn.)

In Game Two on Saturday, Perry batted 2-for-3, while freshman Allana Vasquez added a hit. Additionally, sophomore Kinsey Smith recoded an RBI and senior Katie Norris finished with two walks.

In the third inning, Berry opened the game with an 11-0 lead. Millsaps would score two in the top of the fourth as Smith reached base on a fielder's choice bringing Norris home with the bases loaded.

Berry would attack again in the bottom of the fourth with three runs. The Majors added an additional run of their own in the fifth courtesy of three walks. Perry singled to right field to bring home freshman Alli Powell from third.


Game 3: 17-3, L (5 inn.)

Perry (run scored) and freshman Kadence Cannon (two RBIs) both batted 2-for-3 in Game Three on Sunday. Vasquez added an RBI single.

Berry opened the game with four runs in the first, three in the second and five in the third for a 12-0 margin.

Millsaps would respond in the top of the fourth as a Cannon double to left field scored Norris and Perry.

The Vikings added five runs in their half of the fourth before Millsaps battled hard with a Vasquez single to left field, allowing sophomore Alli Nolen to touch home. Berry would end the inning with a pop up to the pitcher to conclude the series.

The Majors will next take on No. 7 Belhaven at McLeod Field in a Tuesday road doubleheader in Jackson, beginning at 5 p.m. Live video and live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
