Football Slowed by No. 16 Berry, 43-20

Greg Donaldson Totals in 184 Receiving Yards, Two Touchdowns in Defeat

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. — Millsaps College football fell to No. 16 Berry College, 43-20 on Saturday at Valhalla Stadium. Sophomore Greg Donaldson highlighted the Major attack with 184 receiving yards and two receiving scores.

Berry (6-1, 4-0 SAA) stopped Millsaps (4-3, 2-2 SAA) from converting a third or fouth down offensively. The Vikings narrowly edged the Majors in passing yards (199-188), but used a wide disparity in the running game (248-61) to control tempo.

Freshman quarterback Grant Bizjack finished with 188 passing yards and two touchdowns on 10-of-14 attempts, also adding 13 rushing yards on 10 carries.

Defensively, redshirt sophomore Brewer Bailey contributed with seven tackles and an interception return for a 50-yard touchdown. Senior Luke Bridges led the team with 12 tackles, while sophomore Justin Smith also added seven tackles.

In special teams, sophomore Connor Babin sent four kickoffs for 216 yards (54-yard average) and converted two PATs. Freshman Jace Vasquez also powered six punts for 242 yards (40.3-yard average).

The Majors' freshman Bryce Wilkerson was able to recover a muffed Berry punt in the opening minutes, but the Berry defense held tall on a fourth-and-two at the Viking 26-yard line.

Berry eventually capitalized on a blocked punt as the teams opened the game with several strong defensive stops. The recovery later led to a 13-yard passing score. A failed two-point try kept the score at 6-0.

The quarter ended with Berry leading 14-0 after another blocked punt and a successful two-point conversion. A 47-yard rushing score then made it 22-0 off another two-point make to begin the second frame.

The scoreboard went to 29-0 after a 28-yard rushing score on the ensuing Viking drive.

Millsaps managed a critical defensive play late in the half when Bailey intercepted a pass from Berry's Christian Lewis at the 50-yard line and returned it for a touchdown with just over a minute left on the clock. Babin's successful extra point cut into Berry's lead, ending the first half with the Vikings ahead, 29-7.

Millsaps initiated the third quarter with a 60-yard kickoff by Babin, but Berry quickly advanced down the field with a rushing score on fourth-and-one from the Major one-yard line, extending their lead to 36-7.

A Millsaps drive highlighted by Braxton Garmon's consistent rushing and a significant 35-yard pass from Bizjack to Donaldson positioned them within the Vikings' 21-yard line. However, the drive was halted by a penalty and a sack, forcing a punt.

Millsaps responded swiftly in the fourth quarter after an early Berry touchdown, with Bizjack connecting with Donaldson for a 75-yard touchdown pass at 12:58. The offense continued to push back as Bizjack and Donaldson teamed up again, this time for a 53-yard touchdown reception at 8:27, narrowing the gap.

Despite the Majors' late efforts, the game concluded with Berry securing a 43-20 victory after no more scoring by either team.

Up next, the Majors will face Southwestern University on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Harper Davis Field in Jackson, Miss. The contest will begin at 1 p.m. with live video and live stats to be provided at gomajors.com.
