CANTON, Ga. – Millsaps softball freshmen duo
Brynn Arena and
Hailey Peterson made an instant impact in their collegiate debuts as the pair was recognized with Southern Athletic Association weekly accolades. Arena was named the SAA Softball Player of the Week, while Peterson was selected the SAA Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Arena had a quality offensive showing, debuting in left field in Game Two at Blue Mountain Christian on Saturday. She led the Majors offensively, batting 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. The Toppers claimed a narrow 4-3 win in late innings.
Peterson pitched a quality game in her first start in the circle. She tossed 6.0 innings and one strikeout, only giving up two walks in five scoreless innings. Peterson added a double and fielded third base in the opening game on Saturday.
It is the second consecutive season the Majors have swept the initial SAA weekly honors.
Millsaps will remain on the road for its next contests. The Majors will travel to face Centenary College on Saturday, Feb. 8, beginning with a 1 p.m. doubleheader. Live video and live stats links will be provided at gomajors.com.
