MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Millsaps men's and women's track and field programs continued their impressive season by posting top marks at the Rhodes 7-Way Meet at Crain Field on Saturday.
On the women's side, senior Fran Edwards set the program record in the 5000 meters and junior Eleanor Scott won the triple jump.
Edwards continue her outstanding 2024-25 campaign by finishing fourth with a blistering time of 18 minutes, 40.97 seconds.
Scott shined in the triple jump where she leapt to first place and 11.08 meters. She also finished seventh in the high jump (1.48m) and was 10th in the javelin (19.84m).
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, freshman Claudia Dempsey became the fourth-fastest Major in the program record book after finishing second with a time of 12:55.96.
Sophomore Fiona Selders ran strong in each of her events. The Zachary, La., native now sits third in the program record book in the 200 meters after placing fourth (26.40). She is also fourth in the record book after securing ninth in the 400 meters (1:01.44).
the women's 4x400 meter relay squad set a season-best time, which included freshmen Molly Northam, Suzanna Busbee, Dempsey and Selders. The quartet earned third with a combined time of 4:34.15.
Freshman Merritt Johnson made her name noticeable in the program history book as well in the 100-meter hurdles. She now stands as the third best Major competitor after finishing fifth on Saturday (18.48).
Senior Tyler Hamby was also impressive in the javelin throw. She was second with a distance of 31.09 meters. Northam also saw a season-best toss in the javelin (27.15m) to place fourth.
Sophomore Hannah Brown continued her quick work on the track. The Delhi, La., product made her collegiate debut in the 200 meters, running in 27.06 seconds to take eighth place. The sprinter also was a fifth-place contender in the 100 meters (12.91).
Busbee had a solid performance at the Rhodes 7-Way Meet as well. In her collegiate debut at 400 meters, she finished 12th in 1:04.20. Busbee also collected 12th in the 200 meters (29.05) and long jump (4.27m).
Sophomore Amari Jackson-Wirght had a strong showing in the field. She recorded a personal best in the discus (32.10) to earn 14th and was 12th in the shot put (9.00m).
Classmate Reese Brasseaux made her first collegiate appearance in the hammer throw, where she earned a 12th-place showing (26.71m).
On the men's side, a pair of Majors set personal bests in the 200 meters. Junior Zion Nixon (23.67) was 17th and freshman Aidan Brice (24.33) was 18th.
Classmate Phillip Antis cruised to 13th in the 400 meters (53.61) just ahead of Brice (56.05, 15th).
Graduate Bryan Sullivan also claimed eighth in the javelin (41.02m), while senior AJ Alvarez garnered two personal-best marks. He was 12th in the hammer throw (32.53m) and 13th in the shot put (9.56m).
The Majors are next scheduled to compete in the 2025 Southern Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sewanee, Tenn., April 25-26.
