Elyse Warren Honored as USBWA National Player of the Week

First Major to Secure Accolade, 33-Rebound Performance Paces All NCAA Divisions

INDIANAPOLIS – Millsaps women's basketball center Elyse Warren made school history by becoming the first Major to be recognized by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association as she was selected the USBWA Division III National Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Warren, a 5-9 senior center from Memphis, Tenn., posted a pair over double-doubles last week. On Tuesday, she tallied 15 points (6-of-11 FG) and 16 rebounds, while adding an assist and steal in the Majors' 81-69 victory hosting Ozarks.

She followed in Saturday's 55-36 road win at Rhodes, pulling down a school-record 33 rebounds, the highest amount at any NCAA level this season and the most in Division III since 2018. She completed her double-double with a career-high tying 24 points (11-of-20 FG) to go with an assist and two steals.

For the week, Warren averaged 19.5 points, 24.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 54.8 percent (17-of-31) from the field. Warren was also selected the Southern Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season as being named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Monday.

The Millsaps College women's basketball team will next set its focus on facing Centre College in Danville, Ky., on Friday. Game start is set for 5 p.m. CT with live video and live stats provided at gomajors.com.

Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the 11th season that the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
