Football Wrecks Rhodes, 54-10 in Bounce-Back Win

Tasby Jr. Tallies Four Touchdowns, Tying Receiving Record on Saturday

JACKSON, Miss. — Millsaps football dominated Rhodes College, 54-10 under the lights off Harper Davis Field on Satuday. Sophomore wide receiver Derrick Tasby Jr. totaled four touchdowns, including three receiving targets to power the offense.

Millsaps (2-1) outgained Rhodes (0-4) by a 545-294 yard margin, including a whopping 248-25 disparity through the rushing attack. The Majors tallied four passing scores and four rushing scores showcasing a balanced, clinical game plan.

Tasby Jr. tied the single-game record with three receiving touchdowns, hauling in four targets for 108 yards. He added a 5-yard rushing score for good measure. Only Kelvin Gladney (1993) and Mike Barthelemy (2013) have more total scores, both having tallied five rushing scores each in a single game. The program record book does not have a combined receiving and rushing touchdown tally tracker at this time.

Freshman quarterback Carl Reed Jr. (6-of-10 passing, 177 yards) and senior Quez Goss (6-of-8 passing, 120 yards) both tallied two passing scores apiece. Reed Jr. also added 45 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

Senior Tameron Patterson added 119 yards on the ground, finding the end zone once. Freshman Kevin Rogers II found the end zone as well after rushing for 59 yards. Other offensive standouts included sophomore Cornelious Dates (90 yards off three receptions, receiving touchdown) and junior Sean Johnson (52 yards off two receptions).

Junior Cole Williams led the defense with seven tackles (1.5 tackles), while freshman Caplyn Reed totaled six stops (0.5 TFL). Junior Myles Johnson amassed five tackles, including 2.5 TFLs and 2.0 sacks along with a quarterback hurry.

The Majors scored on the offense's first two opening possessions when Goss found Tasby  Jr.for a 14-yard touchdown completion followed by a 17-yard route. Both PATs were blocked, resulting in a 12-0 lead, however.

Tasby Jr. continued his electric start to the game when Reed Jr. found his wideout on back-to-back plays in the opening moments of the second quarter. Reed Jr. hauled in a 44-yard catch, which was immediately followed by a 33-yard touchdown catch.

Rhodes netted a 44-yard field goal to snap the shutout late in the half, but not before Reed Jr. used his speed and quickness to make it a 26-3 game just 2:22 before halftime. The dual-threat quarterback scored on a 36-yard rush that he broke out free to the left side.

Millsaps was not done before intermission as Tasby Jr. rushed up the middle for a 5-yard rushing score, making it a 33-3 contest.

The relentless onslaught continued with the Majors scoring on the team's first drive of the second half. Patterson found an opening down the right side, taking the ball to the end zone with a 40-yard rush.

Millsaps would score twice more in the final quarter and the Lynx found their only end zone booking of the evening as well. Reed Jr. found Dates on a 25-yard passing score, Rhodes scored on a 47-yard pass, and Rogers II rushed for a 7-yard touchdown score.

The game closed with a dominate 54-10 final tally in favor of the Majors.

At halftime, the Millsaps College women's basketball team was recognized during a celebration and ring ceremony for claiming the 2025-26 SAA Women's Basketball Tournament championship.

Millsaps football returns back home next Saturday, Oct. 10 when the Majors host Centre College. Live video will be provided at FloCollege.com, while live stats will be available at gomajors.com.
