MEMPHIS, TENN. — Junior Greer Hernandez set a new school record in the 5000 meters while classmate Fiona Selders placed first in the 100 meters event. The Millsaps men's and women's track and field programs competed this past weekend at the Rhodes Invitational at the Wolfe Track and Field Complex to proudly represent the Majors as they continue to shine in their outdoor season.
Hernandez had an outstanding performance in Memphis, Tenn., at the Rhodes Invitational on Friday, where he broke the school record in the 5000 meters with a time of 15 minutes, 34.89 seconds.
The Broussard, La., native placed eighth in the event, which was the second-fastest NCAA Division III runner.
This past weekend, freshman Dallas Stricker had another fantastic run outdoors. He now ranks second in program history for the men's mile after finishing 16th with a time of 4:35.54.
Stricker also took part in the 5,000-meter event, finishing within the top 25 in 16 minutes and 30.43 seconds.
Continuing the men's competition, freshman Frederick Fluker Jr., powered his way through the 110-meter hurdles, finishing sixth in 16.14 seconds. He moved third place in the program's record book in the event.
In the men's shot put, sophomore Dillon Duley shifted into third place in the program record book, finishing 7th at the Rhodes Invitational with a throw of 12.61 meters.
After earning top finishes at the Mississippi College Spring Classic on March 7, freshman Sean Wyers continued to demonstrate his willingness to compete in the field events throughout the season.
Wyers moved into fifth place in program history after finishing 7th in the discus throw with a mark of 39.27 meters at the Rhodes Invitational.
Freshman Luke LeFors stepped up in both the 400 meters (7th, 52.77) and 200 meters (8th, 23.15), delivering an impressive close-out at each event.
Classmate Wyatt Wheeler finished 10th in the long jump with a coverage of 6.13 meters and placed 9th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.06 seconds.
In the men's 200 meters, sophomore Aidan Brice battled in the 15th position with a time of 23.58, and in the 100 meters he finished 18th with a completion of 11.40.
Freshman Benjamin Sylve clocked seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:02.00, while classmate Jacari Watson finished 12th with a mark of 33.78 meters in the discus throw.
To wrap up the men's team at the Rhodes Invitational, junior Carter Davis secured a strong 13th-place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 25.55 meters.
This weekend, the men's squad had much to be proud of, continuing to put in hard work, refining their talent while showing dedication.
On the women's side of the track and field, junior Fiona Selders had an excellent meet at the Rhodes Invitational on Saturday.
She won 100 meters in 12.40 seconds, becoming the second-fastest runner in program history.
Selders also placed runner-up in the 200 meters with a time of 25.56, improving her time as the third-fastest in that event for the Majors. Across NCAA Division III, she currently ranks 13th in the 200 as well as 20th in the 100.
Senior Eleanor Scott led the Majors in the long jump, placing ninth with a mark of 10.87 meters. The Clinton, Mississippi native also finished 11th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.37 meters.
Junior Amari Jackson-Wright followed, placing 9th in the shot put with a throw of 10.43 meters placing her name fourth in program history.
Classmate Amelia Bohl placed 10th in the hammer throw with a mark of 37.03 meters and 11th in the discus throw with a distance of 31.49 meters.
Junior Reese Brasseaux held the 18th spot in the discus throw with a throw of 25.70 meters, while freshman Katie Brown placed ninth in the high jump with a mark of 1.43 meters.
Sophomore Suzanna Busbee dominated every competition, placing 12th in the 200 meters (28.91) and 14th in the 100 meters (13.84).
Closing out the meet on a strong note, sophomore Molly Northam finished 10th in the javelin throw, while classmate Laken Day placed 12th in the same event with a mark of 26.64 meters, capping off a solid Majors Day.
Continuing their outdoor season, the Majors will now focus their attention on Southern Miss Invitational, Apr. 3-4 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
