CANTON, Ga. — For the first time this season, the Millsaps College softball team has swept the Southern Athletic Association Athlete of the Week accolades, following a league SID vote and conference announcement on Monday. Junior right-handed pitcher and designated player
Allana Vasquez was named the SAA Pitcher of the Week, and freshman catcher and third baseman
Liza Gregg was selected the SAA Athlete of the Week.
Vasquez was stellar in helping the Majors claim a road sweep at Sewanee over the weekend. On Saturday, she pitched a complete seven-inning shutout in a 4-0 win. Vasquez tallied seven strikeouts, a 0.00 ERA, while only surrendering one walk and two hits.
Gregg had a terrific week, in wins at Sewanee and near defeat of No. 9 Belhaven in extra innings on Wednesday. She posted a .583 on-base percentage, .833 slugging percentage, and .500 batting average (6-for-12). She added eight RBIs, a home run, two runs, two doubles, a walk, and a sacrifice bunt.
Monday's announcement gives Vasquez five career SAA weekly honors, and fourth as a pitcher. This season junior
Ella Morgan Sears has also been named SAA Athlete of the Week (March 2), and
Hailey Marange was tabbed the SAA Pitcher of the Week (March 16).
The Majors return home to the Millsaps College Softball Complex and will host Rhodes College, April 18-19. Saturday will feature the Beacon Award ceremony before Senior Day on Sunday. Live video and live stats will be provided at gomajors.com.
