Box Score 2 Memphis, TN – The Millsaps Softball Team continued conference play on Friday by splitting a pair of games with Rhodes for a series opening double-header.
After a seventh inning comeback attempt in game one fell short, the Majors rebounded with a game two win 6-5. With Friday's double-header, the Majors move to 15-13 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
Megan Murray led the Majors in RBIs on the day with two while
MK Bozeman and
Missy Romero led in hits with four each.
In the first game, the Majors fell behind early after a four-run first for Rhodes. The Majors defense then held the Lynx to just one run for the remaining six innings of play.
Millsaps got on the board with a two-run fourth.
Kat Romero reached first on a fielder's choice RBI, which scored
Rayner LeBlanc – giving the Majors their first run of the day.
Missy Romero then scored
Lexi Barron on an RBI single to center field.
The Majors would score two runs on three hits in the positive fourth, but the Lynx answered with a run in the sixth. Trailing 5-2, the Majors began a rally in the seventh scoring twice on a two-run homerun, but eventually fell short en route to a 5-4 loss.
Megan Murray scored the two runs for Millsaps in the seventh with a homerun to left center as the Majors completed the first game with four runs on eight hits and four errors.
In the second game, the Majors fell behind early, but mounted a comeback to split the day with Rhodes.
Leadoff hitter
Kat Romero scored with some heads-up base running in the first to give Millsaps an early 1-0 lead. The Lynx, however, responded with a three-run bottom half of the inning.
From there, the Majors took the lead scoring five unanswered runs – and never looked back.
Kat Romero again got things started with an RBI single through the right side that scored
Rayner LeBlanc in the second. The following inning, LeBlanc scored
Rayne Gravat on a sacrifice fly, which caused a throwing error by the Lynx allowing
Katelyn Murray to score as well.
Holding a 4-3 lead the Majors scored again in the fourth on an RBI single by
Missy Romero. In the fifth
MK Bozeman added to the lead with an RBI double through the right side scoring
Hannah Doggett.
The Lynx would score a run in the sixth, but
Mary Claire Shepard and the Majors' defense closed out the game in the seventh. Shepard retired two straight batters in the final inning before the Lynx reached first on a single. Shepard, however, was never fazed as she forced a fly out to left field – ending any comeback chance for Rhodes.

MK Bozeman finished close behind with two each.
Now at 15-13, the Majors will look to take the series in a rubber match for game three tomorrow in Memphis. First pitch from the Rhodes Softball Complex is set for noon Saturday, March 26th.
