Lookout Mountain, GA – The Millsaps Women's Tennis Team earned their fifth win of the season by defeating Covenant 8-1.
 
Friday's contest marks the first road game of the season for the Majors, as they began the day on a positive note by winning all three doubles matchups by a combined score of 24-11.  Three of the six remaining singles matches would go to third set tiebreakers, as the Majors outlasted the Scots for an 8-1 win.
 
In singles play, Covenant earned their lone win at the one spot in three intense sets 3-6, 6-7 (4) and 10-8.  In the two spot, Audrey Bennett earned a convincing victory (6-0, 6-1) while Jordyn Kanak completed a hard fought, three set match.  After splitting the first two sets, Kanak earned the victory with a 10-4, tiebreaker win.
 
The four spot matchup also went to three sets.  Mary Claiborne-Sharpe earned the close win after splitting the first two sets 6-1 and 5-7.  In the tiebreaker set, she outscored her opponent 10-8 to record the seventh win of the day for Millsaps.
 
Reya Hayek earned the eighth and final win of the day in the sixth spot matchup 6-1, 6-3.
 
Now at 5-2, the Majors will continue their road trip next week with Spring Break play in South Carolina.  Next up for Millsaps Women's Tennis is a matchup with Nazareth.  Play against the Golden Flyers in Hilton Head is set for Monday, March 7th at 7:00 am (CST).
