Jackson, MS – The Millsaps Women's Tennis team completed the weekend unbeaten with a 5-4-conference victory over Oglethorpe.
 
Sunday's win marks the second straight in conference play for the Majors, as they improve to 12-4 (2-1).  The hard fought victory also improves Millsaps to third overall in the conference standings as well.  After leading 2-1 in doubles play, the Majors clinched the match in singles for the second straight day.
 
The duo of Ashley Ford and Audrey Bennett got things started with an 8-2 win at the doubles one spot.  Oglethorpe earned a win at the two spot, but Anna Brahce and Tori Barbier responded with an 8-5 win at the three spot.
 
Holding a 2-1 lead following doubles play, the Majors earned wins at the singles one and two spots.  Ashley Ford and Audrey Bennett both earned convincing wins of 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2, but the Stormy Petrels answered at the three and four spots.
 
Oglethorpe earned two hard-fought wins – both in three sets – at the third and fourth spots to cut the Majors' lead 4-3.  Tori Barbier, however, responded well by clinching the match at the singles five spot.
 
Barbier secured the match win for the Majors with a tough, three set victory.  She won the first set 6-1, but her opponent responded in the second winning 6-3.  In the third and final decisive set, Barbier solidified the match for Millsaps earning a 6-3 win.
 
With the win, Millsaps Women's Tennis improves to 12-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.  The Majors will look to use the positive momentum with a two-match conference road trip next weekend.
 
The Majors will face Centre next Friday, April 9th before traveling to face Sewanee the next day, April 10th.  Opening play in Danville, Kentucky against the Colonels is set for 9:00 am.
